Beechcraft 76 Duchess
Like Piper with its PA-44 the Beechcraft model 76 Duchess was not derived from an existing piston twin like the Baron, but from the smaller, single engine Model 24 Sierra. This is especially visible in the window arrangement, in particular the relatively low cockpit side windows resulting in a high, non-transparent cockpit roof. The Beech' 24 fuselage and wings were fitted it with two engines with counter-rotation props in relatively short nacelles, and a long, streamlined nose. The T-tail has nearly parallel leading and trailing edges, a small dorsal fin and a small forward pointing bullet fairing at the top. The retractable gear and trailing link main gears, and a nose gear retracting forward. Finally, the Duchess has non-tapered wings but with significant dihedral. Essentially, there was only one version of the Duchess, although one was converted with turbocharged engines. This was unofficially known as Beech 76TC.
The heritage of the Beech 24 Sierra is most obvious when looking at the Duchess from the top: the high cockpit roof with low side windows are typical for the Beech 76. (photo: Tomás Del Toro/Wikimedia, modified)

Similar aircraft
Some airplanes look so similar to the Beech 76 that you may confuse them. Below you can read how to distinguish them.
Differences Beech 76 & PA-44
Obviously, the PA-44 Seminole is the main competitor of the Beech 76 in outward appearance, as both are piston twins with low wings and a T-tail. Most differences are quite subtle, but the easiest is to look a the tail and the nose gear. The latter retracts backward on the PA-44, while that of the Duchess forward. Moreover, the PA-44 has longer nacelles and a lower cockpit roof.
Differences Beech 76 & DA42/DA62

The Diamond DA42 and DA62 are also piston twins with low wings and a T-tail, but easier to distinguish from the Duchess. The Diamonds more have a popping out canopy with lots of glass. Additionally, the nacelles are more rounded than flat like on the Beech 76. Finally, the DA42/DA62 has long slender wings with winglets.
